Some bicycles are equipped with a kickstand, which allows you to stand your bicycle without a rack or support. Before parking the bicycle using the kickstand, always test the stability of the system.
The kickstand on your bicycle is only designed to support the bicycle, without a load. If you place a load on the bicycle, the kickstand may not be able to support the bicycle and extra weight, so the load can cause the bicycle to fall.
To work correctly, the kickstand must be on a firm surface. If the kickstand is on a soft surface, the end of the kickstand might sink into the ground, causing the bicycle to fall.
Kickstands must be adjusted and kept tight so that they function correctly, and so that they cannot rotate into and interfere with the rear wheel. Read the Warning about Mechanical Work before performing any service work on your bicycle.
Once a month, make sure the kickstand cannot rotate toward the wheel when you push on it. Also check that the attachment bolt (Figure 1) is tightened to the correct torque. Also make sure the crankarm does not touch the kickstand when you pedal your bicycle.

The kickstand can be adjusted in two ways:
· It can be loosened, rotated, and tightened.
· It can be shortened by cutting it. This is a modification, so should only be done by your dealer.
Once a month, apply a drop of light oil on the area where the kickstand arm slides against the mounting bracket.
