Some bicycles have foam pads attached to the handlebar and or stem. Although the pads are decorative, they also serve a purpose. They are there to shield or pad the rider against contacting the stem or handlebar in a loss of control or accident.
Before every ride, make sure the pads are in good condition and correctly attached to the bicycle. If the pads are worn, loose, or missing, re-attach the pads, or replace them.
