adjustable dropouts

Some frames have rear dropouts that can be adjusted to change the chain tension when used with a single rear cog and no derailleur. The following dropout types are listed by the name of the model but some model names might not be listed. If you cannot find the information for the dropouts on your bicycle, consult your dealer.

Some dropouts accommodate the use of a fixed gear drivetrain, where moving the pedals backward will turn the rear wheel backward, and there is no coasting. This is the system used for Track bicycles, designed to be raced on a velodrome or bicycle track. If you change your bicycle to a fixed-gear drivetrain, make sure you read about Track bikes and how to ride them.

Read the Warning About Mechanical Work before performing any service work on your bicycle.
