Clix quick-release Adjustment

A Clix (Figure 1) quick-release functions differently from a traditional quick-release. For an explanation, see the instructions for Opening and Closure. These instructions explain how to install and adjust the locking (clamping) force of a Clix. This adjustment is critical to our safety, so we recommend that you have your Trek dealer make this adjustment.

Preparing a Clix for initial use (installation and adjustment)

Note: If your dealer prepared and installed your Clix for you, go to Wheel installation and removal with a Clix.

To install the Clix in the hub

1. Remove the locking nut and adjusting nut from the Clix skewer (Figure 1).

Leave the spring (with the smaller end facing the center of the bicycle) and cup in place next to the cam follower and lever.

2. Slide the skewer through the hollow axle of the hub.

3. Re-attach the adjusting nut and locking nut.

To adjust the Clix

1. Place the lever in the OPEN position.

2. Squeeze the cup and lever together  and gently lower the fork onto the hub until the fork dropouts are resting on the hub axle.

Some forks have dropouts with special ramps that allow the fork to slide onto the hub without squeezing the cup to the lever.

3. With the lever in the adjusting position (the lever mark aligned with the skewer mark, Figure 2), tighten the adjusting nut until snug.

4. Test the adjustment. Place the lever in the palm of your hand and swing the lever to the CLOSE position.

· As the lever moves from the OPEN position to the adjusting position, there should be some resistance. If the lever moves to the CLOSE position with little or no resistance, clamping strength is insufficient.

· Perform the Quick Check.

If further adjustment is needed, adjust and test again until the system passes both tests.

5. With the correct clamping force achieved, move the lever to the CLOSE position.

6. To prevent the adjustment from changing, install the locking nut and tighten it just until it contacts the adjusting nut.

7. Test the secondary wheel retention of the Clix system.

Move the lever to the OPEN position. Lift the front wheel off the ground and sharply hit the top of the tire. The wheel should not come out of the fork tips. If the Clix system does not pass this test, take the bicycle to your dealer for service.
