The saddle, or seat, is the part of the bicycle you sit on (Figure 1).  The seat is held by the seatpost. The seatpost offers a wide range of adjustments to the saddle position, allowing a comfortable position that can maximize pedalling power. Information on proper positioning of the parts is found in the section Fitting the bicycle.

Warning—An improperly adjusted or tightened seat or seatpost can cause you to lose control and fall. Make sure the seatpost is positioned and tightened properly before riding the bicycle.
